About Me

I am a multifaceted creative technology specialist and software developer with a strong focus live audio, video, and lighting. I have been doing this kind of multi-disciplinary work for over a decade, and pride myself on my ability to pick up nearly any piece of software or hardware within a couple hours.

My Past

My interest in performance technology started way back in early elementary school when I used to mess with the 5 rows of dimmable heat lamps and our old-fashioned Altspot followspot on our gymnasium stage. I also fiddled with music production in GarageBand and DJed our annual school sock hop. I was destined to work in performance technology, specifically in club and festival settings.

I possess a Bachelor of Art in Computer Science from Oberlin College, however most of my time in my undergrad was spent working in the theater department, collaborating with student theater shows via Student Light and Sound or SLSA (a student organization I founded), or making audio-visual art in the TIMARA department. My involvement in the TIMARA department was substantial enough that I was later hired to help with various research projects and redesigned the TIMARA website, which is still live today. My work with TIMARA and UofM wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of former Technical Director of TIMARA, Abby Aresty.

My Present

During the day, work at the University of Michigan School of Music as the Studio Coordinator for the Performing Arts Technology Department. Over the course of a couple of years, I have been building and refining a custom system in Airtable that automates most of the data management I am tasked with. This includes integration with a number of APIs provided by University of Michigan that allows me to pull student enrollment data to manage room access, email lists, and much more. I also maintain a number of facilities, an equipment checkout service, a series of online training courses, as well as a wiki that documents all this and more. This echos a lot of the work I did with TIMARA.

During the night, I am organizing events with TRANSPHONICS, an art collective I co-founded, or doing freelance work through my AV production company CAT BEAM.

About this website

I designed and programmed this website from scratch. I chose to use the bare minimum Javascript, mainly to improve page loading times and general performance. There’s no need to use a heavy and complex framework like React on a website that is always loading the exact same content, with only occasional updates that can be pre-processed on the backend.
